Adult Learners’ Week is the UK’s largest annual festival of learning; inspiring thousands of people each year to discover how learning can change their lives.
Adult Learners' Week has been promoting and supporting adult informal learning in the UK for over 20 years, and is a festival that is also celebrated in many countries worldwide which value the importance of learning for its own sake.
Informal Adult Learning includes a massive spectrum from arts and crafts and wider cultural learning, to personal development, active citizenship and the growing agenda of environmental issues.
Adult Learners' Week in Manchester
Since it began co-ordinating Adult Learners Week in Manchester 2 years ago, the LSEN has organised a wide range of learning and celebration events during the week itself, as well as promoting a wide range of informal learning activies leading up to the week.
We have promoted Cultural Diversity events to launch Adult Learners' Week, a wide range of learning events and activities during the week, as well as an Awards Ceremony where we present certificates to individuals and organisations which were nominated for Adult Learner Awards but were not shortlisted. We firmly believe that everyone who has been nominated has a story to tell and we like to provide a platform where these stories can be told, and these achievements recognised.
We have also developed a special website for Adult Learners Week in Manchester where we are able to promote a wide variety of learning events in the City, during, and as a build up to Adult Learners' Week.
Get involved
We cannot do any of these things without your help – every organisation in Manchester and in its surrounding boroughs, which sees itself as a provider of any form of adult learning can help us...
Perhaps your organisation is already planning some sort of event during this week; in which case we would be only too happy to work with you to promote your event and badge it as part of the City’s Adult Learners' Week programme...
Perhaps you have a celebration event during the week and would like to enhance and widen your audience by sharing a platform with our Adult Learners' Week nominees?
Perhaps you are already planning some form of cultural activity over the weekend of the 12th - 13th May and would like to widen this activity as part of the national Adult Learners' Week celebration of Cultural Diversity?
Why run an event?
Highlight your organisations’ commitment to learning and inspire adults to discover the fun and diverse ways that they can learn - hold an event, open day or taster session during Adult Learners' Week...
There are many benefits to holding an event during Adult Learners' Week; it's a great way to:
• Demonstrate the learning opportunities that you provide;
• Reach out to adults who wouldn't normally hear about your organisation's activities;
• Publicise your organisation and attract media attention;
• Share your passion and interest in learning with others;
• Celebrate the benefits of all kinds of learning.
You may wish to highlight an event or learning opportunity you are already running at this time of year, or you may wish to develop something especially for Adult Learners’ Week. Either way, be sure to take advantage of this chance to highlight your learning opportunities to a wider audience.
